Garlic Mustard Challenge
Join the Montgomery County Garlic Mustard Earth Day 2008 Challenge and help clear this invasive weed from the Sligo Creek and Long Branch parklands. Garlic mustard is a non-native, invasive plant that is out competing the native plants and trees. It is easy to identify and easy to pull.
When you are finished pulling weeds, bring your bags of garlic mustard to one of our weigh in stations. If you or your group pulls the most garlic mustard by weight… you win a Grand Prize! All those who pull will receive a participation prize!
Gloves and tools will be provided or you can bring your own. Wear long pants, long sleeves, and comfortable shoes. Project runs rain or shine! Participants under the age of 14 must be accompanied with a parent

Park Cleanup at Long Branch
Come out to the parks and celebrate Earth Day by keeping the trash out of our streams and rivers! Montgomery County is looking for volunteers of all ages to help pick up trash in several parks in the month of April. All ages welcome, but children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult This event will take place on April 26th from 9am-12pm at Long Branch Park on 8700 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring. The Maryland Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division seeks volunteers to be trained as complaint mediators and to provide information over the division's Consumer Hotline. Being bi-lingual in English/Spanish or other languages is a plus.

Teach environment
The Department of Natural Resources is seeking enthusiastic adults to become TEAM (Teaching Environmental Awareness in Maryland) volunteers. TEAM volunteers educate elementary and middle school students about the Chesapeake Bay and other Maryland environmental issues by delivering hands-on presentations in classrooms around the state. While no prior teaching experience is necessary, volunteers should enjoy working with children.
TEAM offers schools free classroom programs on the Chesapeake Bay watershed, streams, oyster reefs, horseshoe crabs and Chesapeake watermen.

Chesapeake hospice
Hospice of the Chesapeake is looking for dedicated individuals who want to contribute their time and talent by becoming a community outreach volunteer.
These volunteers staff the Hospice of the Chesapeake information display at health fairs, expos and community events. In addition, they assist with the planning, promotion and staffing of annual fundraisers such as Hospice Cup, the Beacon of Hope gala and the golf tournament.
